Help our native salmon by restoring riparian habitat along the wild and scenic Skagit River. We will be planting native trees, removing invasive plants and other related tasks. These plants will provide shade for salmon and woody habitat in the stream for aquatic insects, which in turn provide food for the salmon. These riparian zones also improve water quality by controlling erosion and filtering toxins.
Starbucks will also sponsor this event with their "Make Your Mark" program where registered volunteers earn $10/hr contribution to the Skagit Parks Foundation! Don't forget to sign up at your nearest Starbucks any time after October 15th. You do need to sign up prior to this event.
Bring weather appropriate clothing, boots, gloves, water bottle and a friend! Tools will be provided.
Directions: Take Highway 20 to Rockport Turn right onto Hwy 530, (toward Darrington) and just before the Skagit River bridge, turn right into Howard Miller Steelhead Park. (You can also access the park via Alfred Street) Follow signs for parking near the west end of the park in the campground area.
Carpooling - Scott Perry will be there at 8:45am with a dual cab pickup to take as many as possible. All the vans had their seats removed for the elections and were not available. |
