March 25, 2006, brought together volunteers comprised of Starbucks employees
and customers, Skagit Valley Grange members, Skagit Parks Foundation board members and Skagit
Parks and Recreation staff to clear intrusive blackberries and plant
native species in a riparian section of Friday Creek at Pomona
Grange Park. The riparian, land next to water, is the most
valuable habitat for wildlife. Clearing out the choking blackberries
and planting red twig dogwood, willow and other native species is a
tremendous improvement.
